What is the tariff integration algorithm?

You save even more by integrating your battery with your energy tariff. By setting your battery to charge during times when energy is cheaper (and greener!), you can reduce your electricity bills. It's a win-win for both your wallet and the planet!

The smart algorithm has been developed in house by our software team and is controlled and developed by us.

Our algorithm controls when the battery charges from the grid. We know for each tariff the price of energy, so when the energy is at its cheapest (usually during the night), we will arrange for the battery to be charged, ready to be discharged when the price of the energy goes up later in the day.

Rather than just simply charging the battery overnight on cheap energy, we will look at several factors to ensure that you are optimising on the potential savings on your energy bill. For example, we will also look at the weather forecast when deciding how much the battery should charge from the grid. If it is expected to be a sunny day, there will be a lot of excess solar generated (depending on house loads), therefore we want to avoid charging your battery to 100% on cheap energy at night, cheap energy is good but free energy is the best! The battery will charge to the required amount depending on the weather forecast, predicted amount of solar to be generated and your energy consumption habits.

As the algorithm learns your energy consumption habits, performance will improve over time as estimations on how much solar energy will be used and how much excess will be generated to stored in your battery.

How to integrate your variable rate tariff

You can save even more by connecting your battery to your variable rate energy tariff.

Our algorithm knows when your energy is cheapest, and automatically charges your battery from the grid during these periods so it’s ready to use when prices increase.

To get started, open your Duracell Energy app.

Tap the menu in the top-right corner, select Account Information, then Variable Rate Tariff Algorithm.

To select your tariff click update

Choose Variable Rate Tariff Algorithm, and click Update to select your tariff from the list.

If you can’t find your tariff, select Other and enter the requested details. Our software team will aim to add it within five working days.

If your tariff is listed, simply enter your postcode and town or city, then tap Update.

That’s it. Your battery will now automatically optimise its charging, taking into account your tariff prices and factors such as the weather forecast.

Now your battery will charge during the off-peak periods of your tariff, but you still have the ability to set scheduled charges and discharges outside your tairrfs off peak window. To see how to set charges and discharges, click here.

If you would like to remove the integration, this is simple to do. Select Account Information, Variable Rate Tariff, and Update. From the list of available tariffs, choose Disabled, then click Confirm and finally Update.

This will turn the Variable Rate Tariff Algorithm off, and you will then be free to set any charge and discharge sessions you would like.
